This amazing footage shows the insatiable feeding habits of the African bullfrog, which eats literally everything in its path. The frog is being kept in a clear plastic box, and video shows bug constantly being dropped inside so it can feed.
But no matter how many are dropped in, the bullfrog never refuses a meal, devouring everything in its path. The amazing frog has a huge tongue, which it fires rapidly at the bugs, picking them up and delivering them into its mouth.
Footage offers an amazing insight into the animal’s hunting technique, showing how it stands still and the lunges at its prey. The sticky tongue can be seen flying out of its mouth at high speed and latching on to the insects, even those standing on the side of the box.
It even jumps nearly a foot to get at a worm being held over the side with tweezers. The squat reptile, with a bulging belly, devours 17 insects in this video alone, eating a series of beetles and cockroaches. It attacks groups of insects in the box, continuing to eat as much as it can, which may explain why the species can grow to weigh in excess of 2kg.
The animals are known to be aggressive, attacking when provoked, and have been known to eat rodents and even snakes. In captivity, they can live for 35 years, and unlike some frogs, they have sharp teeth that could give a human handler a nasty bite.
