Every professional wildlife photographer will tell you that the secret to capturing those award winning and once in a lifetime moment is in patience and being at the right place in the right time. However, sometimes there’s just no secret as the animals once in a while tend to do the unexpected and end up surprising the photographer.
As a wildlife biologist, I’ve been surrounded by turkeys, dragging their wingtips over my toes, and sitting on my knees. Also have had several rattlesnakes crawl over my (booted) feet. Also had three raccoons all around me, pulling themselves up my pants legs. Been close enough to a large bobcat to touch it, and several weeks later met the same bobcat on a forest trail about 1 of 2 miles from our previous meeting.
This time he had a large squirrel that he dropped at my feet, and I handed it back to him. Had both red and grey foxes come close enough to sniff my shoes. Had a troop of wild hogs surround me, pushing and shoving to get close. Love the great outdoors!
